Thanksgiving Trends

Thanksgiving is known as the time for giving thanks and eating amazing food, but it can also be the time for great fall fashion. We all know you're going to overeat, so here are a couple outfit inspirations for you to be cute and comfy for your thanksgiving dinner and giving thanks, without looking like you just ate the entire turkey and pie.

Our first inspirations of outfits include sweaters, which you can easily dress up or dress down.
You dress the outfit down by adding some comfy jeans and cute pair of sneakers like our first outfit pictured or you could dress up by adding your favorite scarf and some fall boots like the second one.

This next outfit screams fall time, which is why it would be the perfect go to for a yummy Thanksgiving dinner. A chambray shirt, which is comfy and can easily go with just about anything in your closet, is paired with black leggings, a fall colored scarf, and brown boots. You can add the sweater for an extra comfy look.

Burgundy is a known fall color, which would be perfect for a Thanksgiving dinner. Our first outfit is a loose velvet shift dress with black knee boots and to accessorize you can add a gold long necklace. Our second outfit is a loose burgundy blouse with black leggings and black penny loafers; to dress the outfit up you can add a tan scarf and gold earrings.

All of these ideas would make an extra cute thanksgiving outfit! However, if you fail to assemble a look-alike outfit, you can always fall back on the basics: oversized comfy sweaters, your favorite pair of leggings, and a fall themed scarf!

Mention your favorite outfit in the comments below!

Fashion Fridays

Many students here at ChattCo have a great fashion sense! Not only do they follow the trends, but they also create their own. This weeks picks for "Fashion Fridays" includes just a few of those students who are singularly stylish.

Brianna's outfit is well put together. Her burgundy shirt and bird print infinity scarf pair perfectly  with her distressed light denim. Her black riding boots are especially fashionable with the chevron cutouts.

Hope's look is particularly girly with a lot of red tones. Her pink paisley top is a perfect complement to her maroon jeans. Her quilted combat boots also add a nice touch and make the outfit look complete.

Joi's outfit is very chic. Her gold-chained leopard booties make up the focal point of this outfit. However, her red jeans, black button down, and gray jacket all contrast nicely together.

Micheal's outfit is pretty fashion-forward. The floral print stands out against the midnight black of his cutting-edge pullover.

Katelynn's outfit has a light, bohemian feel to it. Her sheer crochet top is simple, yet still feminine. Her tan riding boots were a perfect choice for this outfit!

Current Event, 2 November 2015

Kyle Navin was charged with two counts of murder; along with his girlfriend Jennifer Valiante, who was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, on Friday October 30th, after the disappearance of parents Jeanette and Jeffery Navin. Kyle’s parents disappeared on August 4th, and their remains were found on October 30th. Jeffery and Jeanette bought Kyle a house, and he failed to make the necessary payments on the house resulting in Kyle owing them $133,000. He needed to find a way to get the money, and would do so in any way possible.

Both Valiante and Kyle shared text messages that gave police reason to believe that they were behind the murder. Jeffery allegedly had a very emotionally and verbally abusive relationship towards Kyle. Kyle also apparently tried to frame his father, as shown in text messages exchanged between the two. This poses very alarming questions: How well do you know the people around you? Do you know what they are capable of, and if they are a danger to your or others? What would you do if someone you thought you knew, turned out to be the most dangerous person in your life?

If you suspect any suspicious behavior, you are encouraged to report it to school administration or emergency authorities at the immediate.

DIY: Halloween Costumes Right out of Your Closet

Halloween is this Saturday, panthers!! While we may be a tad bit grown for trick or treatin', there will be a school dress up day held on October 30th. Don't let the price of buying a costume keep you from participating! You are more then likely to have something to make a costume right in your closet!

Yellow rain jacket? Check. Umbrella? Check. Cute, Cheap, Creative Costume? CHECK.
Match this rain day attire together to achieve a 'Morton Salt Girl' costume. It's unique, it's simple, and it's downright ADORABLE!

A kitty cat costume is the PRRRRfect costume
Let's face it, girls, we all shamefully own a leopard print top. So throw it on, along with an eyeliner and whiskers, and bam! You've become one feisty feline! Wanna' put some extra effort in? Cat accessory packs are sold at Party City for as low as $7.

Little Black Dress? More Like Bewitching Black Dress!
When all else fails, ladies, just wear that favorite little black dress of yours! Add a witch hat, or devil horns, and just like that, you've become a daughter of darkness.

Bohème Halloween
Anything Bohemian, from fringe to overly floral can be brought together for a wood nymph type look. Sticking to neutrals, and wearing a floral headband will really enhance this look!

Fashion Fridays

Here is yet another week showing off ChattCo's most stylish students. If you would like to be featured every other week on the blog, find a yearbook photographer during lunch to take your picture!

Peyton's outfit is very cozy and is sure to keep anyone warm as the temperature drops. Her light denim pairs nicely with the large, chunky scarf and over-sized black cardigan. The distressed combat boots also add a nice touch.

Madison's preppy outfit is simple, but still fashionable. Her warm toned riding boots accentuate the large, plaid scarf. Her over-sized denim shirt is a classic, and perfect for anyone's fall closet.

Ardaiju's & Tyree's outfits are both simple with stylish touches. Ardaiju's look is accented by her 70's style flare pants, which is a huge trend for fall. The loud, black and white pattern is the focal point of the outfit. On the other hand, Tyree's outfit is a staple. The floral sandals go nicely with her mint sweater and dark jeans.

Olivia's outfit is great for anyone looking to add a bright touch to their closet. Her loud patterned dress matches well with her light denim jacket. Her shoes have a bohemian feel to them and go well with her dress.

Joe's sleek look is perfect for any guy looking to dress up without being overly formal. His silver collared shirt and dark cardigan are a perfect match to his two-toned, oxford style shoes. His watch especially adds a stylish touch.

Last-Minute Halloween Costume

This is high school, and every year, you tell yourself, “Next year, I’ll get it together.” And here it is, 2015, and you still don’t have a costume.

This tutorial on how to make fake blood shall accompany a list of simple, last minute costumes.

THE EASIEST: SELF EXPLANATORY
This one is water based- so can easily be put in a spray bottle or water bottle.
Just take a bowl and mix:
  • ¼ cup of water
  • 4 drops red food coloring
Remember, food coloring stains! Don’t put it on any clothes you want to keep.

ALSO FAIRLY SIMPLE: MORE REALISTIC
In your bowl, mix:
  • 1 TSP cocoa mix
  • 2 TBSP corn syrup
MIX THESE UNTIL THERE ARE NO LUMPS
AFTER MIXTURE IS SMOOTH, ADD:
  • 4 drops red food coloring
This mixture is kind of sticky; be careful not to get it on any important accessories.

THE FINAL: MOST REALISTIC
Mix into your bowl:
  • ¼ cup of water
  • 4 TBSP corn syriup
AFTER THE MIXTURE IS CONSISTENT, ADD:
  • 8 drops red food coloring
  • 2 drops yellow food coloring
  • 1 drop green food coloring
The different colors combine to make a dark, realistic colors.
This blood, however, will look a bit “older” on clothing.

This basic outfit is a staple for all high school students.

Coach Spotlight: Ashley Breland

Q: What was your favorite thing about coaching the softball girls this past year?
A: My favorite part about coaching was being able to teach an awesome group of girls not only how to play the game but to love the game.
Q: Do you plan on coaching next year and what made you want to coach this year?
A: Yes I plan on coaching next year. I wanted to coach this year because I absolutely love this game. I have missed softball so much and to be able to come back to the high school that I graduated from and take the field as a coach was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done and I am forever grateful for the opportunity.
Q: This past season, who influenced the team the most and why?
A: I believe the better question would be who did not influence the team because everyone brought something to the plate and contributed to the team in some way, regardless of their position or status. With out each player on the field and in the dugout we would not have been as successful.
Q: When you were younger, could you have seen yourself as a softball coach?
A:Yes!! From the time I was playing little league I knew that I never wanted to leave this game. My whole life has revolved around softball and I could not imagine living life without this game.
Q: What are your best memories and what will you miss the most about last season?
A: One of my favorite memories is the practice where we made a slip and slide and learned how to slide. That was definitely the most fun practice we had all season. Another one of my favorite memories is from the Manchester game because there were two outs made by putting Manchester in rundowns. One was between second base and third base (Aneesha, Brittany and Julia) and the other was between third base and home (Brittany and Chloe) The girls executed the plays with finesse and it was at that moment that I felt absolutely successful because we spent about half a practice working on that and to see them put what I taught them into action was one of the most rewarding times of my life. There are about a million more memories I could tell you about but I will just end this by saying I could not have asked for a better group of girls to have my very first year coaching at this level.

Fashion Fridays

Here are some of ChattCo's most stylish students this week for Fashion Fridays!

Joi's look is well put together and perfect for fall. The white lace tank and denim jacket pair nicely with her maroon colored jeans. The studded oxfords are unique and add an edgy touch.

Bre's outfit is accented by her stylish military jacket. The warm toned floral shirt and bow flats add a girly touch, but the distressed jeans tie an edgy look into it.

Shailyn's look is very casual and sporty with her plain white tee and shoes. However, the dark floral infinity print scarf adds a girly touch and makes the outfit stand out.

Zenobia's outfit especially stands out with her soft neutral printed pants. The denim jacket makes it perfect for fall! Her gold bracelet and watch add a chic touch to the outfit.

Tre's collared navy blue shirt seems simple at first, but with a closer look a skull detail is revealed. His shirt makes a great transition from summer to fall, and is perfect for anyone looking to add an edge to their outfit.

Kim Davis Is Released From Jail

Kim Davis, a Rowan County clerk in Kentucky, was released from jail on September 8th, 2015, and she had a few things to say to the press upon her release. On September, 4th, Davis was jailed for refusing to administer marriage licenses to gay couples. She used her religion as a clutch when she was asked why she did not do her job. Not only did she break the law by discriminating against a group of people while in the workplace, but she also abandoned the basic tasks that are assigned to her as county clerk.

Some may say that she has every right to refuse because she has the freedom to practice her religion, but as a government official, you have to abide by the law; however, if she owned a private business, she would have every right to refuse to serve whomever she pleases, but that was not the case here.

“I just want to give God the glory, keep on pressing, don’t let down because He is here.” Kim stated. Although her dedication to her faith is admirable, her unwillingness to fulfill the requirements demanded by her position is quite embarrassing and unneeded.
